Thermoforming is very commonly used in the automotive industry, both in basic production and in the adaptation of vehicles for special purposes. Vacuum thermoforming is used to produce body elements (bumpers, covers, wheel arches, covers) as well as insulating and interior elements. The most commonly used material is ABS in pure form or combined with other materials, PVC, TPE (rubber material) and special porous-fibrous materials for sound and thermal insulation. Due to the large size of forming and/or the large-scale nature of production, thermoforming machines are usually equipped with an automatic material (plate) feeder, halogen heaters and other options that allow the forming cycle to be shortened to a minimum. After forming, the moldings are subjected to final processing either directly on CNC milling machines (usually 5-axis machines are required due to the complexity of the shape) or by first cutting them off from the edges of the material using a band saw. Saws are used especially in the case of multi-element moldings.
